Some frequently asked questions
Questions about health and fitness matters can be best answered by the trained staff at the participating gyms. Below are some of the common questions and answers regarding the Fit4future project. If your query is not answered here - please contact us and we'll happily answer your questions.
Open AllClose All- I’m under 16, can I join?
- Unfortunately not on this particular scheme. You must be aged between 16-22 when you register, in order to receive the subsidised rates. But there’s nothing stopping you speaking to the gyms involved about any other types of memberships that may suit your needs.
- What happens if I turn 23 during the year after I’ve joined
- That’s absolutely fine. As long as you are 22 at the time of joining the scheme
- What happens to my membership after 31st March 2010
- You can continue to be a member of the club after this time, however, the subsidy will stop. However, nearer this time we will be looking at ways in which we can help you to continue and will let you know about these ideas.
- Why do I need to go to the gym an average of once a week?
- Firstly, it’s a really good idea to go to the gym at least once a week, so that you maintain a certain level of fitness, plus this will keep you motivated. Secondly, visiting once a week is the only way you can maintain the subsidy from the government as part of this scheme.
- I’m going to be away a lot over the summer, what will happen to my membership?
- The subsidy will still be paid as long as your visits average 12 times in each 3 month period, so it’s quite easy to achieve this, even if you go on holiday.
- What happens if I don’t visit, on average, once a week?
- If you fail to achieve 12 visits in a 3-month period (an average of once a week) you will lose eligibility to receive the subsidised £5 rate for the following quarter. However, you will still be eligible to receive a reduced Fit4future monthly rate of either £15 or £20, for that next quarter, depending on where you are a member.
- What about if I want to switch to another participating gym during the 12 months that the scheme is running?
- You can only switch gyms on this scheme during the recruitment period which is from April-June 09
- Can I pull out of the scheme at any time if I decide that I don’t want to belong to a gym.
- Absolutely. However, we really hope you enjoy being a member of a gym and that it helps you feel better and healthier, so let us know or your gym staff know if you start to feel de-motivated about the scheme, it would be a shame to lose your subsidy rate
